Ok, so we’ve fixed the problem with our contact emails, and retrieved what we think is all the messages which were in limbo.

But if you’ve sent us an email in the last few days and not gotten a reply yet, please resend it.

Also, there were complaints of filters not working; that glitch, too, has been fixed so your content results should be consistent now, but let us know if you see anything to the contrary (yes, emails on the contact page are receiving messages now).

Otherwise, the upgrade went just great.

An update to the help is in the works, as well as more details about the recommendations engine (yes, there really is one).

So the main page will be updated to reflect those changes, over the course of the next few days.

You might see some downtime or unexpected disconnects in the interim, but our staff of highly-trained monkeys support team will make sure that’s kept at a minimum.

Usually, it happens like this: the web site you’re looking at says its RSS link is http://blah.com/rss.xml but if you were to click that link, you get a stub of html redirecting you to http://feeds.feedburner.com/blah instead, which is where the RSS really is (and no, there’s no RSS at that particular link, I’m just using it as an example, ‘k?).

So if you type http://blah.com/rss.xml into SeekSift, you’ll get back an error message saying there’s no syndicated there (because there isn’t).

Using the ultimate Feedburner address (in our little example http://feeds.feedburner.com/blah) would work, because that’s exactly the type of data we’re expecting.

The obvious thing to do is just follow the redirect, but we’re wary of making changes just for Feedburner; also, from a security perspective it’s better not to just follow, blindly, any redirect that gets presented to you.

So, for now, we ask that you figure out the actual address (and if you’ve read this far, you’ll know how to do that), but if the feedback to accommodate these Feedburner redirects continues, we’ll have to consider making a change.

Since we’re not fans of vaporware (and the jokes those types of announcements inspire), we’ve kept mum on our latest updates to SeekSift, but some new and interesting things are in the works.

Chris brought along a few machines for us to play with, and it’s amazing to see how much progress they’ve made already.

While the idea to let people to buy one for themselves while simultaneously donating another is off, unfortunately, there are laptops available to developers serious about contributing to the project.

For application developers (in OLPC terminology, applications are activities) who want to write activities for the laptop, there are resources for developing in Python, and there’s also a general development site about the code which drives the OLPC’s Sugar environment (less an “operating system” in the way we think of computers and more of a human interface that kids will find intuitive).

While we’re not sure how much time we’ll wind up contributing ourselves (even though this is exactly the kind of distraction we love to indulge in while procrastinating & avoiding our daily chores), we’d like to wish the OLPC project well, as well encourage everyone who can to contribute.
